2025 Family Update

Bruce ordered some wine in June and this automatically entered him into a competition to go to an Eagles Big Lunch, just before the Derby, on 25th July. We decided to make it a two day event and went up on the Thursday to play golf at RFGC. When we arrived, we were told that we couldn’t use a golf buggy since it was so wet and Bruce can’t walk at the moment since he has a foot problem. Cancel golf.

Then we went to a Golf store to pick up a club only be told that had sold out of that model. Onto another store to be told the same story. We then went to pick up a Samsung tablet, only be told they had sold out of the that model. Onto another shop, who had sold out.

Rosie then went bra shopping, first shop didn’t have her size, next shop didn’t have her size. Finally David Jones had some so after a whole day, something finally went right.

We booked into the Crown Promenade at the Casino complex and this was very pleasant, nice room on the top floor with views over the carpark, could look down and keep an eye on our car.

A bit of a walk around and we found where we had to go for the lunch the following day.

We had no idea what we were actually going to get, but it was pleasing to see that it was taking place.

As the morning progressed, we could see all the people arriving for the functions so we got a bit excited and then down we went. There were about 200 people at the lunch and we had no trouble finding our table and had good seats looking at the stage so we could easily follow the proceedings.

There was copious quantities of McHenry Hohnen wine which Bruce overindulged in and the meal was excellent. During the meal we listened to a discussion between Karl Langdon (MC), Oscar Allen, Jake Waterman and Elliot Yeo. They were very open and having a few good jokes about their future with the club.

We then had a farewell discussion between Jeremy McGovern and Dom Sheed, which was very entertaining. Finally they had a quiz with Nick Nattinui and Michael Walters who apparently both lived on the same street when they were young boys.

Rosie enjoyed the lunch and Bruce enjoyed what he remembered. We found out the next day that Bruce’s cousin Rose Mary was sitting at a table in front of us. She recognised Bruce and took a picture, which she sent to her mother to confirm. Unfortunately Kerry was on a flight to Bali and couldn’t respond till the next day.
