Once the holiday rush was over, we closed the business for a week in January and visited The Vines golf resort to spend a quiet week and get in a bit of golf. We were surrounded by fires in the hills and the temperature was in the high 30’s, but we enjoyed our stay and enjoyed our golf so all was good.

Liam is now in Year 12 and one of the events that is traditional is the Spaghetti Bridge competition held amongst the Year 12 Physics students. Liam put a reasonable effort into his bridge but didn’t win. It was good to see him excited about it though.

The big event for this year was Daen and Sophie’s wedding. Rosie went all out getting herself prepared. Only seen this much effort when Merv and Robyn got married and Rosie was the only Bridesmaid.

Peg came down for the wedding and we all got dressed up in our Sunday best. The ceremony was held at Aqua resort in Dunsborough, which was very nice. All our bridge dinner night friends were there, so it was all very social and enjoyable. Nola and John came down from Geraldton and both of Daen’s half sisters were there, which was great to see.

Rosie look beautiful and was let down by Bruce who couldn’t be improved no matter how hard she tried.
Maddy was the flower girl and loved running down the path to where the ceremony was to be held. After her bit, she was kept entertained by the two grandmothers so that she wouldn’t steal the show.

Eddy proudly gave away the bride and Rosie gave a speech on behalf of the parents.

A couple of months later, Ben and Becca got married so we all had to get dressed up again. Kim looked quite dashing in his white suit jacket.

It was a very pleasant day, held in a garden setting at Perth City Gardens in East Perth. We have become a very large family group now that the boys have started to marry and also bring along girlfriends.

The next event after this was Liam’s Year 12 Ball. He didn’t take a date, much to his parents disappointment, but he did join his group of mates and had a very enjoyable night. Bruce went along to the ball as a teacher representative and it was great to see all the students that he teaches all dressed up and looking extremely mature.

In the first term holidays, we went to play in another Qantas golf tournament, this time at Huntingdale GC in Victoria. They have held the Australian Open at this course so we were looking forward to playing this venue. A practice round at Royal Fremantle on the way was also good.

In May, Liam and Bruce went to the Darby Mothers Day in Dwellingup, which again had a very good turnout, the Kings are very keen on this event and outnumber the Darby’s these days.

In the midyear holidays, we went off to play in another of the Qantas golf tournaments, this time in Brisbane at the Royal Queensland Golf Club. We then flew back to Adelaide and played in another tournament there.

While in South Australia we did the Barossa Valley tour and played a couple of golf courses in this area.

At the end of the year, Bruce held another Darby Barbie at the house with all of his Year 12 students. We cooked pizzas, each small group creating their own pizza. Vegas was a bit of a hit, going from group to group trying to scrounge food out each of the students. A couple of the smaller girls found him very intimidating and kept running away as he approached. This only turned into a game for Vegas, much to their terror.

We finished the year with our usual Xmas celebrations. Daen and Sophia came over for breakfast before we all went to Debbie and Ed’s for a late Xmas lunch.
