The summer of 2013 saw us go to a few movies at Cape Mentelle. This is just up the road and the atmosphere is really nice on a warm night (they don’t happen often). We could sit on the grassed area with a wine and a pizza and just enjoy a pleasant evening. Most of the movies are really good, but occasionally they are hard to hear in an open area theatre.

As usual we went to Leeuwin concert at the end of February, the artist this year was Carole King and it was very nice to reminisce Bruce’s time at University when her music was very popular. Rosie’s Mum Betty also came down to stay for a while in February and March.

Betty loves to sit outside with Vegas, who is very intrigued by her. I think Vegas also sees Betty as a food source, so he never lets her go to far away.

Peg also came to visit in April, so the two Grandmothers got to share some time with each other going to sports carnivals and other social activities.

Liam is still in the cadets and marched on Anzac Day with the group. He also did the flag bearing. Betty and Peg are both very impressed with Liam in his uniform.

This was the 50th Anniversary of Darby day in Dwellingup and it was very sad that Dad wasn’t there to celebrate with the rest of his family. We all know that Dad would have been looking down on us with a twinkle in his eye

There were so many Darby’s at the anniversary that we all had to have name tags and be able to discuss our genealogy.

The school ski trip took place again in July, with Jamie coming along this year to keep Liam company. Obviously Liam really enjoyed having more company, but it did mean that he had to keep to the simple slopes.

On the 14th August, 2013, Madelyn Ann was born, to the happy parents Sophie and Daen. This was 14 years after Liam was born. Liam was born 14 years after Daen. Bruce loves a good Mathematical progression.

Needless to say, Rosie is over the moon to finally become a Nana. Her and Deb both wanted to be called Nana, so we Nana Deb and Nana Rosie. Bruce was quite happy to be called Grampy, he feels it will make it easy the grandkids to adjust this name to a more suitable one in later years.
Our Friday night bridge dinners continue every week and we are absolutely loving them. The meals that the girls create are exceptional and to be able to get together so regularly to discuss life in general is really good for everyone’s mental health. Shaun really likes the smaller group where he can hear what is going on around him.

In December, the cadets did their camp and we went off to the roller skating in Busselton, the X-treme water park in Dunsborough and the local swimming pool, which was set up for a xmas party.

To finish the year, we had a Xmas breakfast at our house followed by a mid afternoon lunch at Sophie’s parents house. Mum came to stay for Xmas since this was the off year where everyone else goes to their respective families for Xmas.
