In March of this year, we started our golf holiday in Melaka, Malaysia. We arrived at KLIA around 10pm, and then caught a taxi for 2 hours to Melaka. The entry into the city was very beautiful, if you like coloured lighting and bright light decorations. The street that our hotel was on was all lit up like it was Christmas.
The next morning we got up early, had a quick breakfast and then went to play golf at Ayer Keroh CC. We were able to book using the QISoft app and since we were both registered members, we got the local seniors rate of 113 MYR instead of 250 MYR ($80), bargain.
The golf course was very good, with a lot of shade and jungle on the edges of the fairways, we met a very friendly member who gave us a bit of help to get started and was very positive about his golf course. There were a lot of monkeys on the course, which was interesting, but you have to make sure your bags were protected or they would steal everything out of them. We both played reasonably well.
That night, we walked down the road to the Dutch Square where most of the historic buildings are. On the way there, we passed through the area called Little India which lived up to its name, it was very interesting at night, a bit run down during the daylight hours.
Sitting at a bar overlooking the canal and having a beer was a good way to spend a bit of time before dinner and it was fun watching the canal boats going past. Our hotel receptionist recommended going to Wild Coriander for dinner, and the meal was excellent.
The next day we took a canal ride (since we couldn’t do one Friday night??) and enjoyed looking at the redevelopment taking place along the canal, this will be a great area in a few years time. There was also some good street art on the buildings facing the canal.
All up, we really enjoyed a couple of days in Melaka, it was vibrant and pleasant to get around.
