June is going to be a month of relaxing, seeing a bit of Mississuaga, planning the Summer holiday and finishing off the school year. We started the month by visiting Wonderland again and this time Liam had a much better time. We arrived early and Rosie and Liam went straight onto the Vortex, which they loved. Unfortunately for Bruce the queue was very small so he was then dragged onto the ride for Liam’s second ride. Bruce hates these rides and can only handle them by closing his eyes and waiting for them to finish. One ride of this type is enough for the day.

Fortunately for Liam, Rosie does enjoy the rides enough to be able to go on them all with him. After the Vortex it was off to the Behemoth. This was a high speed roller coaster which, as you can see in the background, has some very steep drops.
The Psyclone was next, which swung on a big pendullum and also spun around. Bruce didn’t really want to be anywhere near this ride for fear of people thowing up on him.
Off to the rocket next, which swung back and forth until it finally did a complete revolution, leaving everyone upside down for a while.

You might wonder what Bruce does while all this happens. Usually he wonders around, takes a few photos and searches for good food to eat. When Liam is finally ready to slow down, the whole family took a ride on the bumper cars, much more to Bruce’s speed. We left when the queues started to get a bit larger. We have a season pass to Wonderland, so can go back anytime we like and just catch a few rides. We might go back in the evening soon to see what this is like.
The next weekend we went back to Mohawk Raceway. It was much quieter this time, as Bruce suspected, and everything was easy to get to and much more pleasant. It doesn’t cost anything to park or to go in, so this is another good place to visit whenever you like and stay for as long or as short a time as you want.

Liam quite enjoyed it the first time since he won $2.40. Unfortunately he didn’t enjoy it so much this time since he didn’t win. Mom and Dad on the other hand had small wins, which were all bigger than Liam’s previous win, which really made him spit the dummy. We had to leave after race 5 since the horses were being spooked by all the dummies flying everywhere.

Liam has his graduation from Grade 5 next week and part of the event is the Grade 5 Photo above. Rosie and Bruce got to play “Where’s Liam” and it wasn’t easy. Liam’s teacher, Mr Lucas, is on the back row, first from the right.
We loved the self portrait (below) that Liam drew. We found it to be an interesting insight as to what he thinks he looks like. All the Grade 5’s did these, most had two portraits, one done at the beginning of Grade 5 and then the one at the end. The change in drawing ability was very noticeable, a perfect example of how you could measure the value adding that the art teacher had done.

Liam has started mixing with Fazel on the weekends and we have started to get to know his parents Abeava and TJ, a very nice family from Nigeria. Liam also gets on very well with Fazel’s younger sister. We all went to watch Fazel play soccer last week and then went for a nice walk around Lake Aquitaine. The small lakes in the area are really very pleasant and a great haven for birds etc.

As you can see, Bruce managed to make it to the Graduation, his school is just cleaning up after exams and there isn’t much going on at the moment. He has been home every day this week by lunchtime.
Liam and another friend Kevin. We had Liam’s teacher Ross around for dinner last week since his wife is currently in Japan looking after her family. Ross has done a great job with Liam (and all the Grade 5’s). It has been really good to have a male teacher, since it gives Liam a different outlook on school.
We have been really impressed with Liam work in Math and overall his homework is great. He learnt long division in this last week and after a real struggle he managed to pick it up quite well. Pretty good since everyone else did it at the beginning of the year.
The day after the Graduation, the school had their final presentation assembly.
At this ceremony, Liam presented the Principal, Dianne, with one of our Australian Flags so that the school had a small momento to remind them of the only Australian student who has attended their school.
