2017 Family Update

Liam started University this year, doing an Engineering Course and staying on campus at St Catherine’s College UWA. He enjoyed the atmosphere and initially got involved in the dress up social occasions

The Welcome Dinner and celebration of those who graduated the previous year.

Rosie and Bruce felt a little lost with Liam no longer living with us, so we took every opportunity we could to go to Perth and visit him.

March
June

In March, Royal Fremantle GC held a Qantas golf event so Rosie and Bruce continued their Qantas Golf experience and went along. Our scores were reasonably good at this event and we came in the top 10 with Rosie winning a prize for the most accurate drive. This was her fifth major prize at these events, winning two drivers, two 3-woods and a putter.

In June, we took a couple of weeks off LSL and added this to the school holidays to take our first major overseas golf tours to Thailand and England. There is a separate post on this.

Our Gentle Giant – Vegas

Unfortunately; While we were away on holidays Vegas suffered a heart attack and the Vet had to put him down. He lived a good, long, life and was loved by everyone. Liam was looking after the property while we were away and called in Merv and Daen to help him cope with Vegas’s demise. Liam was very impressed with Daen’s digging ability (his electrical apprenticeship came in handy) and between them they buried Vegas on the property near some grevilleas.

August

Once back from our holiday, we enjoyed playing with our grandchildren and watching them grow before our eyes.

September – Country Week – Silver Spoon

Mum came down to visit during August, which is something she looks forward to each year. She like to sit out on the verandah and take in the sun, she also like to roam around looking at all the gardens and seeing how they are changing.

In September, Rosie always goes to Country Week Golf in Perth, she tries to qualify for the Silver Spoon, which is a special event at the beginning of the week. She also tries to qualify for the Jubilee Foursomes with Penny. The Silver Spoon was played at Nedlands GC this year and Bruce went along to caddy for her.

September

Our good friends Dave and Barbara are back living at Subi Centro now, so we go visit them often when we go up to see Liam. Dave kept talking about his good friend Ali, so eventually Bruce asked who this Ali was. When Dave gave me her last name I realised that it was my cousin. Ever since then poor old Ali is looked on with a different light by Dave.

October
End of Year Social function at St Cats

Liam enjoyed his first year at Uni, but unfortunately didn’t attend many lectures or do any assignments, so naturally he failed everything except a simple mathematics unit. Dad wasn’t happy and made it very clear that he wouldn’t be paying supporting him much the next year. Liam was getting a Youth Allowance so that will cover his costs.

End of Year Social function in November

Rosie enjoyed her holiday earlier in the year so much that Bruce convinced her to go on another short holiday to Thailand in December, so we took time off work to be there for Bruce and Rosie’s 50th Birthdays, there is a separate post on this.

December 19

We got back from our holiday in time to celebrate Merv and Robyn’s wedding anniversary on the 19th December. The “Bridge” group all went out for dinner and made sure to call Dave and Barb in Subi, since they were also celebrating their wedding anniversary.

Christmas was our usual breakfast at our house and lunch with Sophie’s family. A very pleasant year.
