2012 Family Update – January to June

Liam went into Year 9 at High School this year. He did well in Year 8 and is currently in the top Maths class, much to his father’s delight.

Early in the school year, Bruce organised a Mathematics Activity group to visit the school and we set up a whole lot of activities in the Auditorium for the different classes.

Liam is still relatively short for his age bracket, but we are very happy with his social skills, even though he still gravitates to an unusual group of friends. We think it is a safety mechanism, you won’t get beaten up by the bullies if they are all your friends.

As usual we went to the Leeuwin Concert in February, this year the main act was Marina Prior, David Hobson and The Perth Symphony Orchestra. They also had James Morrison, which was excellent. We really enjoyed this concert.

Around the same time, we were looking after Mr Willis while Dave and Barbara were away on a holiday somewhere. The two dogs get on very well, even though are a bit like Danny DeVito and Arnold Swartzineger.

Unfortunately Liam played cricket again this year, he is getting better but there is still little enjoyment in sitting out in the sun and watching his games. Bruce did the scoring again to keep himself concentrating.

Every Friday night we have Dave, Barbara, Merv, Robyn, Sally and Shaun over to “play bridge”. It is really just an excuse to booze up and eat delicious food that Sally cooks. Robyn or Barbara produce desserts and Salads. Rosie cleans up afterwards. Not sure what the boys contribute?

Liam is in the cadets this year, we thought he would like to dress up and being active in volunteering in the community. One of the functions of the cadets is to attend the Anzac Parade, representing the school and also holding the flags during the speeches. They also help out with the laying of the wreaths. They are a lovely group of students and Bruce helps out as the teacher supervisor.

After the Anzac parade this year we all went back to Dave’s place for a dinner in the gazebo. Dave has done this room up very nice making it an all purpose eating area throughout the year.

Daen and Sofie has a new house in Brookfield and Daen got together a few of their friends to help build a brick wall out the front to provide more privacy and another entertaining area.

As usual, we went to Dwellingup for the Darby Mother’s Day picnic. Liam is a lot older in the traditional photo now. Unfortunately the number of Uncles and Aunties continues to diminish.
