2005 November Family Update

After the ski trip in July, October quickly came up on us which is Liam’s birthday. We had a party for 10 of his friends and Liam planned all the activities.

Liam’s ideas were great. He wanted me to hide little army men in the paddock so everyone could do a treasure hunt. He also wanted everyone to get a small car. When they found 5 army men, they ran off to another part of the paddock to find their car. This kept everyone amused for a long time.

Liam is still into everything army. He got guns and army clothes as presents. I got a good insight into why parents find boys easier to look after than girls. When all Liam’s friends turned up they immediately went into his room and found a gun, they all then went outside and ran around shooting each other for half an hour.

Everyone thought finding army men was a great idea and several realised that there had to be more out in the paddock so they spent lots more time searching for them.

After Liam’s birthday, it was Rosie’s turn. We got Daen to baby sit for us and Bruce took Rosie out for dinner. It was nice to be by ourselves for a couple of hours.

My Year 12’s were a great bunch this year. They put in a lot of extra time in after school study and practise exams. We finished off with the “DarbyQ” at our house. I got the kids to do the cooking and food preparation and it turned into a really pleasant night. Now to wait for their exam results to see if I am still employed next year.

We went to the “Burning of the Vines” for the first time this year. It is a fund raiser for Liam’s Primary School. I was very impressed with the organisation, all the kids bought glow products and ran around playing until it was dark. We then had fireworks followed by the lighting of a big bonfire made out of old vines and vine cuttings. Liam loved it, which was great since it is the first time fireworks haven’t scared him.

During Schoolies week, we all went and stayed in the Beach House. Liam loved it since he could have a spa every night. Bruce enjoyed fixing up the gardens and lawns but unfortunately he had to go to Perth in the middle of the week which made everything a bit rushed. The next occasions are school finishing (1 week early which is great) and then a trip up to Geraldton before Christmas. We are then fully booked for the next three weeks and still pretty busy throughout the whole of January.

Rosie and Bruce went off to Liam’s xmas assembley on the last Tuesday of term. Bruce had no idea what Liam was doing, he has just been listening to the songs that Liam practiced.

It was a pleasant surprise to see Liam dressed up as Father Christmas and hop up on the stage with four other boys, holding his guitar.

Liam was dancing away and doing all the appropriate actions so Dad was pleased that his son had paid attention and taken in all the actions that were required. Liam was quite a little star.

The whole assembley was very enjoyable and was topped off when Liam’s class won the golden broom award which meant that they were given lunch the next day. The kids were very happy.

It is so emotional watching all the little kids dancing and singing. I am full of admiration for primary school teachers and kindy teachers, they do a wonderful job.
